i have a bajillion posts that i started this past week but never finished. let me just say i am so very happy this week is over. it was full of good, bad, stress, big laughs, depression, yummy food, starvation/stress headaches, tears, and best of all affirmation from without and most importantly within that i am taking the right steps.

i want a million and one things right now, but sleep reigns supreme. too bad i am one hot, sticky mess and will take forever and a day to fall asleep.

the other thought/want that is consuming my brain is formulating a getaway for our anniversary. visions of luxury resorts are dancing in my head, especially if it doesn't require much gas to get to. however, it's major belt-tightening time in the potatobear lair. on the third hand, i want to splurge a little while we have the means since we won't for awhile and have been receiving lots of reminders from everywhere lately that i need to put a limit on my sheistiness and invest our hard-earned funds on travel and experiences now and again...and to live! i'm thinking a night or two in a nice-ish place as far north as santa barabara or even the central coast (neither of us have explored this middle ground much at all) and as far south as san diego. going east into the desert will probably be too hot in early august. suggestions?

oh yes, the big reveal on the meaning of d-day coming very soon. i'm growing increasingly bitter and sick of being mandated to keep mum, and there really is no reason to do so at this point anyway.

  1. i'm sorry to hear you had such a blah week, but yay for the weekend!! erik and i heart the central CA coast, and once did a vacation with stops in monterey, carmel by the sea, cambria, pismo beach, and san simeon. the madonna inn is a slightly kooky but altogether rad place to stay. ;-) xoxo

  2. If you really want to splurge, check out Bacara in Santa Barbara.

Along the Central Coast, Angel's Madonna Inn suggestion in San Luis Obispo also came to mind for me. Not so much a "splurge" as an "adventure" there. ;) Not far from there are the Sycamore Mineral Hot Springs, where I believe you can get a room with your own private hot springs tub.

  3. You only live once. You may have to eat ramen noodles for awhile, but the funds will eventually be replenished. This is how I justify shopping. =)

  4. We love the central coast! Our favorites are Pismo and SLO, but we usually stay in SLO itself.

The dessert will definitely be too hot in early August.

  5. No to the desert. Too freaking hot! No to San Diego. Not a fan of the hotels there. Yes, yes, yes, to Santa Barbara and beyond. I'd love to sneak away to Bacara before this babe is upon us. And if you want to go up to Carmel, you know I have the perfect suggestion for you :)

  7. I think you'd love the Central Coast!!! The Santa Maria Inn is cute and near lots of wineries... And Santa Barbara is one of my fave places. If you do go and feel like stopping for dinner on the way up in Ventura, Brooks will make you ecstatic. It's everything Delius is trying to be -- except it actually succeeds!

  8. Central Coast is awesome. I would love to live there. It's worth taking a drive up the 1 through Big Sur. As far as places to stay go, I don't really have any recs. I'm cheap when it comes to hotels, inns, etc. But I know Carmel has some nice places.

  9. santa barbara or carmel would be fun. when jim and i went to carmel last year, our 3 day vacation felt like forever - in a good way! it's a great place to just bum around and enjoy the other person's company. happy trip planning!
