guilt

i've been feeling behind lately, which in turn usually makes me feel guilty. i am glad to find i am not alone.
What’s more, in a busy world, says professor June Tangney, women often feel that they must choose between shortchanging family and friends (guilt!), cutting corners at work (more guilt!), and ignoring their own needs (yet another type of guilt!). "For many women, the standards are impossibly high, and the world — and their inner voices — are telling them that nothing they do is good enough," Tangney says. It’s all too easy to feel as though you’re always falling short.
amen, sista.

i got home from work about 20 minutes ago. i had my work tasks for the week planned out nicely, but this demanding new prospect is throwing a wrench in my plans. i don't even want to write a proposal, but it looks like i will have to. i've already spent too much precious time that could have been billable talking his earplugged ear off.

guilt over things not worth feeling guilty over make me work too hard.

i now have michael jackson's whiny, "you are noooooot alooooooooone. i am here with yoooooooooo..." stuck in my head.

  4. i totally understand where you're coming from. i'd like to say that taking a break for while is the way to go, but i also know that it's not always that easy to do.

  7. I think I can definitely relate potato pal. I'm thinking about calling in sick one day to give myself a break and "catch up" so I'm not buried with the other tasks and guilt associated. Keep in mind that it's only temporary. It helps me get through some days. :)

  9. I feel guilty when I don't update my blog. I just can't imagine what it's like to chose between kids vs. household crap vs. hubby time. Ugh, stresses me out just thinking about it. I agree with everyone else though, sounds like you may need a mental health day!

  10. We should go and eat really really delicious foods that are bad for us. Food that is deep-fried, covered in butter, smothered in gravy and topped with bacon. Yes, there will be much guilt. But the key is not in eradicating the guilt, but rather shifting it to a much more pleasurable area.

We'll feel bad, but it will taste so good.

  12. My friend and I were talking about this at dinner last night. We hadn't seen each other in 6 months and she lives 15 minutes away! Hello friend neglect! But it is a lot to balance. Sheesh.
