drive-by blogging

this year is very different from last year, school-wise, which is both bad and good. it's way less stressful since it's more familiar, i have friends already made, and our instructors see us and treat us way differently than they did when we were fresh meat. which means, i'm...

...still fat (for me). and will probably continue to get fat thanks to sitting on my butt 12-18 hours a day at school, then driving home on my butt to sleep on my butt for a few hours just to rinse, wash, repeat all over again. i need to start utilizing my split food in half before eating and save for the next meal tactic. but then i get all lightheaded from hunger and my brain can't do school work.

gramps, a friend, is my studio partner for the semester. his amazing wife brought us an amazing, gourmet, home-cooked meal last night. and she rode the train in, no less. salad, rosemary-roasted lamb/potatoes/zucchini, and tricolore cheese tortellini in marinara. she even brought real plates and silverware. the lamb was perfectly medium-rare, and everything was so, so delicious. especially since the norm at school is vending machine food or overpriced meh coffeehouse food eaten at our desks from their wrappers, often without the necessary utensils. it was so, so nice. i need to find a way to really thank her.

our studio loves trader joe's gorgonzola crackers. ziggy, my favorite studio dog, does not. he munched one in half and then spit it back into the hand i used to offer it to him. dog slobbery cracker. gross.

i'm auditing a class that involves a poverty-entrenched part of LA, social justice via food, food education as a means to enrich and better (and even save, in some cases) people's lives, research, and architecture. woohoo!

i think i'll start finally feeling the crunch this coming week, so we'll see if i have time for drive-by blogging breaks. i miss you all.

  1. It's nice to "hear" from you :) Gramps' wife is very sweet, indeed. And now I'm hungry again at 2:30 AM.

  3. I love it when dogs reject food and then stare at you like you're crazy for thinking they would like whatever you tried to hand them.

  5. I am dying at the visual of the dog spitting out the cracker. I've never seen anything like that since my dog is such a food slut.
